S&G Motors Downland Cup

Singleton v Tangmere
Invited to bat Tangmere were quickly in trouble due to some fine Singleton fielding. Keeper Stanford took a great catch to dismiss Steward in Hall's first over, and then first Jack Davies, and then his father Martin, produced run outs to leave Tangmere reeling at 3 for 2, but Charlesworth and Ola rebuilt the innings with a mixture of care and belligerence before Ola fell with the score on 48. Murray then came to the crease and proved equally effective, and with Charlesworth took the score to 80 in the 14th over before Charlesworth (31) was caught behind. Singleton then retook control and Tangmere finished on 103 for 7.
The Singleton reply opened with 15 off the first over, but then a steady procession of wickets left the home side struggling at 34 for 5 half way through their 10 overs, but Davies (21) and Crocombe (29*) put together a partnership of 39 to bring them back into contention with 6 overs to be bowled. With back-up from the tail Crocombe took control, but just one run in the penultimate over left Singleton needing 9 runs to win from the last with just two wickets in hand. Crocombe smashed two of the first three balls to the boundary, but could not score from the next and his partner Rooke was run out off the fifth, leaving Singleton to score the one they needed from the last ball with their last man at the crease. Crocombe made sure that the ball hit him somewhere and the pair ran the winning run.

Singleton v Easebourne
Singleton cruised into the final of the S&G Motors 20 Over Downland Cup with a convincing win over Easebourne. Having won the toss Singleton elected to field and Hall and Williams bowled tight opening spells to put the pressure on Easebourne. Davies (3-17) then continued their good work with immaculate line and length, and it was not until Dixon and White struck a few lusty blows towards the end of the Easebourne innings that they found the boundary, but their score of 109 always looked gettable. Doel and G Perry made a solid start running smart ones and twos, but both fell as they tried to up the pace. This left the door open for Stanford (46*) and Symonds (28*) who matched caution with aggressive straight hitting and pulling and brought Singleton home with 16 balls to spare.
